SmartDisk has announced their FlashTrax XT—an update to their older FlashTrax photo storage device. The XT features a " LCD screen. The SmartDisk FlashTrax XT is better but only works for jpg and not raw, this seems to be the same with most of the photo storage devices.

It copies the raw files but when you try to view then they don't display correctly. They work fine though when you connect it to your computer.
The best improvment for me though is battery life. The original was poor and seemed to run down the battery when in my pack.

So when travelling and not backing up every day or getting back to a power source I would try to backup and find the thing had flattened its SmartDisk FlashTrax XT in a couple of days keeping the time working. The new SmartDisk FlashTrax XT is miles better to my mind. It works well for me and is quite well built and allows you to backup and confirm the copy quite nicely.
Therefore, I would be willing to let the FlashTrax go for a good price if you're interested. SmartDisk FlashTrax XT had read about the Coolwalker, it sounded good, but it has yet to hit the market, and I was told by a Nikon rep it would cost a lot more than I wanted SmartDisk FlashTrax XT pay. I have to respectfully disagree with Paul's evaluation on several key points. The device seems to be trouble free, both from a hardware and software standpoint.
Build quality is good for these types of devices.

It's relatively compact, SmartDisk FlashTrax XT the size and weight of a smallish Palm Pilot. The controls are handy, and I liked the fact that the screen folded in a clamshell style, and was not exposed like other models. Documentation provided is good, though some small details left me scratching my head till I figured them out.
It comes with a USB cord for downloading files to your computer and a combination AC power pack and recharger. A drawstring padded pouch is also included. Compared to the cost of five 4 G CF cards, the thing is a real bargain. So far I have had SmartDisk FlashTrax XT failures due to mechanical or software glitches.
The Download time for a 40X CF card is about two to three minutes. It is compatible with both Mac and PC, and more importantly it handled Raw format files Be sure you SmartDisk FlashTrax XT this out if you have RAW SmartDisk FlashTrax XT capability on your camera. It also handles text files and, as an added bonus, it works an MP3 music player.
It has a SmartDisk FlashTrax XT speaker, an earphone jack and volume controls on the side so it can be slipped into a shirt pocket and used a portable music player. I found this handy for playing tumes in the field when I was bored.

The speaker is rather dinky, not much volume or tone quality, but with a headphone it sounds SmartDisk FlashTrax XT good, with more than adequate sound quality. As Paul says, the five inch diagonal LCD screen's image quality is pretty low. However, the screen is adjustable for brightness, it does not flicker, and it's perfectly adequate for scrolling through images, editing and deleting and so on.

It certainly is not meant to be a laptop replacement for viewing and evaluating images, but putting in a quality 5" LCD screen would increase the cost considerably.
Paul's right, the "copy" LED light is dim and hard to see in average light.
